Chessboard nails!

Chessboard nail art
Yes, I know another black and white nail art post.
Next time I do another nail art post it will incorporate some color.
For this look, I painted my nails white (Milani's white nail polish in white on the spot). When that dried I took a black striper and I painted one vertical line and one horizontal line in the middle. Then I filled in with black nail polish (Wet n Wild's Ebony hates Chris). After it all dried I applied Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat to add shine. I'm really impressed with this top coat as it adds so much shine- I'm in love with this top coat!

August Favorites!

August Monthly favorites featuring nyx dewy setting spray, garnier bb cream, e.l.f eyebrow kit and revlon gel envy nail polish products

It has been a LONG time since I have last posted a monthly favorites post and I apologize. It is due to the fact that I am always indecisive when it comes to a product. I go through phases when I first buy a product where I am head over heels in love with it then I begin to think that this product isn't all its cracked up to be. It usually takes me a month for me to decide how I feel about a product- sometimes a little longer.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Nail Polish in "Wild Card"- I LOVE this color- it is so bold and it looks fabulous on my nails. I also love how  long it lasts on my nails without chipping. Overall, it is the perfect summer shade and I want to get the most wear out of it before summer is over. Check out my review of it here.
Nyx Dewy Finish Setting Spray- I purchased this in May and it took me this long for me to realize that I like it because I was afraid that it was causing my skin to breakout so I put it aside and I didn't use it for a few weeks. This setting spray has become my favorite because it does not cause me to breakout and I only need to spray it a couple of times on my face to set my makeup. It gives me a lovely dewy finish and it does not leave my face looking like an oil slick which is a huge issue that I have with products that leave a dewy finish because I have oily skin. Also, it does a great job at setting my makeup and making it look great during the entire day- I find that my foundation and concealer don't fade throughout the day. It has become a staple in my everyday makeup bag.
Garnier BB Cream in Medium/Deep- I purchased this at Target in July for about $6 (SCORE). I picked this up because it is too hot in the summer to wear foundation and although I don't want to wear foundation I still want some coverage. The coverage is light to medium and it is definitely buildable. The consistency is sort of thick- it is not runny and I prefer to apply it with my fingers. This BB cream looks so natural on and I don't have issues with it making my skin more oily.
e.l.f Studio Eyebrow Kit in Medium- I randomly purchased this at Target when I bought the Garnier BB cream. I blame it on the whole 'going to target for one thing and leaving with a ton of other stuff' that everyone tends to suffer from. I don't regret buying this at all. To be honest, my brows are not sparse and I don't need to fill them in but I like them looking a little darker. I use the gel side to fill them in slightly and then I use the powder to set them in place. My brows stay in place and they do not budge! I can safely say that my eyebrow game is ON POINT!

What are your favorites for August?

I was nominated for a Liebster award!

The beautiful Lorna from Captivate the eyes nominated me for the liebster award! This is my very first liebster award and I am so happy!
Lorna is a 20 year old beautiful and talented beauty blogger from Australia. She creates really cool makeup looks like cut creases and more. If you would like to check out her blog click here.

Here are the questions:

1.     Where do you currently live? Are you originally from this country?
I was born and raised in central New Jersey in the US.
2.     When did you start blogging? What was your first blog post about? Who was the first person to comment on your blog posts, that was not part of your family, or your friends?
I created my blog in March 2014 and my first blog post was a review about the MAC Prolongwear Concealer which is my HG concealer. It wasn't until my second blog post that someone commented on it. I was very excited- its an awesome feeling when someone comments on my blog because its cool that there is someone out there who read my post and relates to it.
3.     What motivated you to start blogging? Is this motivation still driving you to blog? Or, is there something else motivating you now?
Well, I love makeup, beauty, and nail art so that was one motivation to blog. I think what caused me to create this blog is watching youtube beauty vloggers. A few years ago I watched Jlovesmac1 videos and I loved her videos. I loved how there was a community of people who share the same interests and are able to connect with each other. I created a blog so I could connect and share my hobby with other people. I believe that this motivation is still driving me to blog- I love reading other blogs and they inspire me to create looks and try products
4.     How would you best describe your make up preferences? Do you like your make up dramatic, or more on the natural side?
It depends on the occasion. Lately, I like my makeup on the "natural" side. My go to "natural" look is winged liner, contoured cheeks, highlighted skin, foundation, loads of mascara and a bold lippie. Yes, this is natural to me haha.
5.     What is the first make up product you ever used? Fast forwarding to the present, do you still use the same brand and the same product?
I believe the first makeup product that I've used is maybelline's great lash mascara. I still use maybelline products but I definitely don't use that mascara, I prefer mascaras that give my lashes that falsies look.
6.     Name your top 3 bloggers. Who are they, and what attracts you to read their blogs?
World of Wanderlust- She turned travel into her career and she travels all over the world. I love reading her posts and she makes me want to sell all of my things and spend a year traveling to different countries.
Peace Love Shea- I have been reading her blog for a few years. I love her style and she definitely is one of my style inspirations.
CoutureGirl- I enjoy all of her posts. She tends to post a lot makeup posts and those are my favorite posts to read. I also love how she photographs products- the photos are really great quality.
7.     What is your Favourite beauty/makeup related product? What makes this product your absolute favourite?
I would have to say my mac prolongwear concealer. I have terrible under eye circles and this is the only product that I have tried that effectively conceals them.
8.     What is your best and worst feature about yourself?
I think my best feature are my eyes and my worst feature is my nose. I don't like my nose and its something that I have struggled with my entire life but I wont change it. My imperfections are what makes me unique.
9.     If you could give advice to anybody wanting to start up their own beauty/makeup blog, what would you say?
Go for it and have fun!
10.  Fast forwarding five years from now, do you think you will keep blogging? If so, would you remain blogging about beauty products?
I hope so and I will still blog about beauty but I hope to incorporate some travel posts as well.
11.  Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Graduated from college with a bachelors and masters degree and working in a job in my desired field. Blogging wise: I will still be blogging and hopefully making youtube videos.

I hope you enjoyed reading my answers!

Revlon Gel Envy Nail Polish in Wild Card

Revlon gel envy wild card and top coat

The latest craze when it comes to nail polishes are gel nail polishes. Almost every brand has released a gel nail polish line. I have never had a gel manicure at a salon- actually, I have never had my nails done at a salon so I really wanted to try this nail polish to see if it was any better than a regular nail polish. Lately, I have been lusting after nails inc. gel nail polishes after seeing HeyClaire's video on them. I can't justify spending $14 on a nail polish so I will not be picking them up. Maybe....
Wild Card reminds me of Baker Street so I'm happy to have a dupe. Now if only I can find a dupe of Kensington High Street....
Revlon describes this as a longwear nail enamel with a gel-like shine. No light required. Up to 11 days of lasting color. In 30 easy to remove shades.
So basically this isn't supposed to be exactly like a gel mani but the results are supposed to be similar of one. The nail polish is a base coat and a nail polish in one and the directions state to apply two coats. Then you apply one coat of the diamond top coat to ensure that it stays for a long time on your nails.

Review of revlon gel envy nail polish in wild card and top coat

Wild Card is a beautiful cobalt blue with no shimmer or glitter. I applied two coats as directed but you can get away with applying one. After that I applied one coat of the top coat. It's important to use both polishes because that is how it is going to remain on your nails for a long time. Also, the top coat definitely adds shine. I have received so many compliments on my nails with this color because it's so gorgeous and summer appropriate.
In terms of wear, for me this nail polish almost lived up to its claims. It lasted me about 10 days without any major chipping. It actually did not chip on me those 10 days but after that I noticed that it began to wear. If you work with your hands then you'll experience chipping much faster.
I purchased this at Walmart and I paid $4.97 for each polish.
I'm impressed with these nail polishes and I plan on purchasing more shades.

JustFab Haul!

My latest obsession as of late has been JustFab. If you are not familiar with JustFab it is a shoe subscription website where for $39.95 a month you can have one pair of shoes from a selection of shoes that are picked according to your style. There's a lot of controversy about JustFab because of the fact that to purchase their items you have to become a V.I.P member and when you do so they can automatically charge you every month $39.95 unless you choose to skip a month. To skip a month you have to do it between the 1st and the 5th of that month and then they wont charge you $39.95. A lot of people have issue with that because its easy to forget to select the skip a month option as Justfab doesn't remind you. Personally, I haven't had any of these issues and I just make sure to create a reminder on my phone so I remember to skip the month.

I was browsing the JustFab website and I saw that they were holding a huge sale. Most of the styles that I wanted were quickly selling out and I managed to purchase these beauties. I purchased the Tarina flats in size 9, the Christian boots in size 9 and the Arrival handbag in Tan. I got a great deal and I paid less than $50 for all this.

This is the Tarina flat in size 9. It is made of  faux suede and on the tips of the shoes there is gold beading. The tips of the shoes are an almond toe so they are like a pointed toe shoe but its a little rounded. I love these flats because they are your basic black flats but kicked up a notch. You can add these shoes to a basic outfit and it automatically dresses it up. I wear a size 9 and they feel true to size. I'm looking forward to wearing them in the fall.
I have the black version of this boot and I just had to have the brown pair, I feel like the brown pair is much cuter. Christian is a brown faux leather boot with strap and studs and has a very low heel. They also feel true to size. Another thing people dislike about Justfab is that often times the shoes are not true to size-sometimes its a half-size too small or big. It helps to check out the reviews on the site before you buy to make sure what size to pick. One thing I don't like about these boots are that the soles are very smooth- I will have to put a sole on the bottom. They feel true to size and they feel comfortable.
Last, is the Arrival handbag in Tan. I purchased this bag as a gift for my mother. It is a beautiful tan color and it has a gold chain detailing on the front bottom of the bag. Its a large bag- these are the measurements: 14.5L x 11H x 6.5W.
There is another zipper compartment in the back of the bag.
Inside the bag there are two zipper compartments on one side of the bag and on the other there is a pouch. The interior of the bag is animal print. This bag also has a detachable shoulder strap. It's so big so you can fit a lot of things in it and its great that it has so many compartments because you can keep everything organized. This bag also feels very sturdy and it doesn't feel like it was made of cheap material. I was very impressed with this bag because it felt so sturdy like it'll last me a long time. I hope their other bags are like this.

Overall, I am very pleased with my JustFab purchase and I can't wait to buy some more shoes from their website!
Have you shopped from JustFab?

Product Empties #1

product empties loreal the body shop garnier demert and sweet almond oil

I go through beauty products very slowly so being able to share with you all my first empties post is very exciting! It also gives me an excuse to shop. I tend to go through skincare products a lot faster than makeup products so that explains the absence of makeup in this post.

L'Oreal Hydrafresh Toner: I purchased this toner because I ran out of my body shop toner. It claims it is alcohol free but it does contain alcohol. It doesn't dry out my skin which is a huge plus but this toner didn't wow me. If you have dry skin you may want to give this one a try because it isn't drying like most toners. Would I repurchase? No.
DeMert Nail Enamel Dryer: This is a must have for me. After I apply my nail polish I shake the bottle then spray it over my nails. It helps your nail polish dry much faster than just letting it air dry. Plus it's super affordable, I bought the small size for about $2 and Ive seen the full size at Walgreens for about $5. You'll love this if you want to do your nails but find yourself not having enough time to wait for it to dry. Would I repurchase? Yes! This has become a staple and I'll be buying the full size spray.
De La Cruz Sweet Almond Oil: This year I've been using facial oils to moisturize. I like that they are natural, very affordable, super moisturizing, and they leave my skin looking radiant. I purchased this at Walgreens for about $3 and it lasted me about 3 months. It would have lasted me longer if I only used it as a facial moisturizer. I like to use on my hair, facial moisturizer, body moisturizer and its great for massages. I love the nutty scent of it, it's such a relaxing scent. Another thing to know about this is that most oils have a short shelf life, I believe Sweet Almond oil's shelf life is about 6 months. It is important to store it in a dark place like in a cabinet. Would I repurchase? Yes and I'm halfway done with my second bottle.
Garnier Skin Renew Clinical Dark Spot Corrector: I struggled with cystic acne last year and when I finally got it under control I wanted to get rid of the ugly red scars it left behind. This was a huge lifesaver for me, I was very skeptical about this product because of the mixed reviews but I began to see results after one month. I only used this once a day in the morning and it lasted me approximately 3 months. If you use it twice a day as recommended it'll will probably last you a little more than a month. It helped fade most of my acne scars now I only have a few stubborn ones left on my cheeks. I purchased it at Walmart for approximately $15. Would I repurchase? Yes!
The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing  Toner: I purchased this at the body shop when they had a buy 2 get 1 free sale. It definitely helped with my breakouts and my skin felt a lot cleaner after using it. One downside is that it is very drying- just make sure to moisturize after you use this toner. Would I repurchase? Yes and I'm planning on trying more products from the tea tree line.

Have you tried these products before and if so what are your thoughts?
What are your empties?

Wet n Wild Megalast Nail Polish in Private Viewing

Another nude nail polish for my nail polish collection. I have so many nail polishes that are similar if not this exact color but I'm always buying more... The struggle of a nail polish junkie.

I can safely say that I am a fan of wet n wild nail polishes. I love all of the ones that I have tried and I really love the nail polishes from the mega last line. I like the packaging, the brush, the price and the colors.

Here is Private Viewing, I picked this one up at Walgreens along with some other wnw nail polishes during one of their sales. This is a nude pinky-brown color with no shimmer and it is a creme nail polish. It is opaque after two coats and it lasted on my nails about five days without chipping.

Although I have a few other nail polishes in my collection that are very similar to this color I still really like this color. The manicurve brush makes application effortless and I love that it is a creme finish and to top it off it is super affordable!
