On the go | Travel Makeup Picks

wnw comfort zone nars sheer glow demi wispies mascara mac concealer blush travel makeup bag

I'm going to Rome this week and for the past week I have been wracking my brain trying to decide what makeup to bring. If I were a normal girl, I'd just pack a foundation, concealer, and mascara. But no, since I'm a makeup junkie I'm bringing EVERYTHING. Vanity got the best of me.

I'm planning on bringing my makeup in my checked luggage as I have too much makeup and it'll pass the TSA limits. I purchased my valet makeup bag from Ulta- isn't it so adorable? It's very spacious and has a lot of compartments for organization.
wnw comfort zone nars sheer glow demi wispies mascara mac concealer blush travel makeup bag

For the face, I chose my indispensable products. I have a love and hate relationship with primers right now- I have textured skin and I haven't found a good primer that I love. Benefit Porefessional helps fill in my pores and hide a little bit of discoloration so I packed a sample of it. I'm taking my HG foundation of all time, NARS Sheer Glow. It's a beautiful long-wearing medium coverage foundation with a lovely satin finish. Of course, I packed my HG concealer, MAC prolongwear concealer. I have an obsession with baking- no, not baking as in food but rather "baking" my under-eyes. You basically apply a loose powder on your undereyes after you apply your concealer and let it set for about 10 minutes. This will set your concealer perfectly- I notice that when I bake it helps hide my undereye creases so for this reason I'm totally bringing my Sacha Cosmetics Buttercup powder. By the way, Buttercup is very flattering for women of color and an fantastic alternative to Ben Nye Banana Powder if its way too light for you. I made sure to bring my favorite e.l.f blush palette in dark as it brings four shades. My Becca highlighter in Opal is my favorite highlighter-its so beautiful and it goes with any look.

I brought way too many products for my eyes but I intend to use them all. I packed my Wet n Wild eyeshadow primer. For eyeshadow, I decided to bring my oldie but goodie eyeshadow palette, Wet n Wild eyeshadow palette in "Comfort Zone" and Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine in "Florence". These are mostly neutral colors so I'm sure I will put them to good use. I know I'm probably doing too much at this point but I rarely wear falsies. To glue my lashes I'm using my Kiss Latex-free eyelash glue. So I'm bringing Ardell Demi Wispies which are my favorites and some more natural looking ones which are the Andrea lashes in 21. I packed my HG mascara, Maybelline The Falsies and my favorite  NYX matte liquid eyeliner. I really like this eyeliner as its very dark, matte, and long-wearing. I have full eyebrows but to darken them up and shape them, I use NYX eyebrow gel. It's an amazing brow product- its very dark, you only need a small amount for both brows, and its practically waterproof. Just in case I want to vamp up an eyelook I packed my e.l.f gold glitter eyeliner.

wnw comfort zone nars sheer glow demi wispies mascara mac concealer blush

I kept it rather simple with my lip options. I definitely made sure to pack the essentials such as my MAC Prep + Prime lip, a lip exfoliator, and a lipstick remover as my Colourpop ultra matte lip is hard to remove. I packed a few pink and nude lip options: Maybelline Matte Lipstick in Touch of Spice, Colourpop lippie stix in Tootsi (greige), Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in StingRaye (Mauve), and Wet n Wild lipstick in Cherry Bomb. I packed a nude NYX lipliner just in case.

How do you pack your makeup when traveling?
Do you overpack or keep it simple?

Empties IV

product empties lush skincare wnw nail polish mac concealer maybelline matte + poreless foundation ulta tarte maracuja oil
If you were to tell someone that you purposely gather trash to show to others on the internet I'm sure they would look at you as if there's something wrong with you. It's probably because there is something wrong with us. It's a struggle that beauty bloggers and vloggers share. I'm so excited to show you my current empties because that means I can finally throw them away except the Lush and MAC stuff.

LUSH Tea Tree Water: The best toner that I have ever tried! It's very gentle on the skin and it does its job. I love the scent as well. It's meant for oily skin but since its gentle, I think that all skin types can use this. Would I repurchase? Already have.

LUSH Herbalism Cleanser: I was so bummed out when I ran out of this because I really enjoyed using it. It cleaned my face without over-drying; its so gentle on my skin. I love the consistency as its so soft and you just need a little bit to work into a paste. The only downside is the scent as it smells very herbal because of the rosemary. This cleanser is great for those with oily skin who want to control their oils but are afraid of their cleanser stripping out all of their natural oils. Would I repurchase? Yes.

ULTA Makeup Brush & Sponge Cleaner: I bought this because I ran out of my favorite cleaner of all time, Parian Spirit. I needed something in the meantime while my Parian Spirit was being shipped so I settled for this one. It's nothing special as you just have to wet your brushes or sponge, spray the cleaner on them and rinse it out. Would I repurchase? No.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation: Move over Covergirl 3 in 1 foundation, this is my new HG drugstore foundation. The coverage is light-medium and it looks so beautiful on the skin- it doesn't settle into my pores like other foundations. I also find it long wearing as it doesn't fade through out the day. This is ideal for normal to oily skin so I used this more in the warmer months when my skin was on the oily side. I like this foundation much more than the original Fit Me formula. Would I repurchase? Yes.

Wet n Wild Fast Dry Nail Polish "Ebony Hates Chris": I typically run out of nail polish very slowly. This is the only black nail polish that I've ever used and will continue using. It's only $2 and it is so opaque and dries very fast. It's everything I could ask for. 'Nuff said. Would I repurchase? Already have.

Tarte Maracuja Oil: I tried this because it came in a deluxe sample size in a Tarte collection. I was really interested in trying it because of the Maracuja oil craze on youtube a couple years back- youtubers used to swear by this. I like using oils to moisturize as they moisturize and control excess sebum on the skin. This oil is so light but yet moisturizes so well. I really like this oil but its very expensive and honestly, my sweet almond oil does the job. Would I repurchase? Maybe, if I can buy it on sale.

MAC Prolongwear Concealer in NC-42: I was so sad when I ran out of this concealer. It's my all time HG concealer and I haven't found a concealer that works as well as this one. It covers my red under eye circles so well and doesn't crease. I only need one pump for both eyes. I absolutely love this concealer. Would I repurchase? Yes!

Fall Mauve Monochrome Look

fall makeup mauve tutorial colourpop lorac loreal

It's finally starting to feel like fall and I was inspired to start doing more fall appropriate looks so my face is a mixture of mauve colors. I love dark mauve colors and I feel like they look amazing on everyone.

I shopped my stash; I went for products that I rarely use for my eyes but I used my favorite face products as per usual. After moisturizing my face, I applied my HG foundation NARS Sheer Glow in Tahoe. I concealed my dark under eyes using my HG Mac Prolongwear concealer in NC-42. I set, baked my concealer, and reverse contoured my face using Sacha Cosmetics Buttercup Powder. I filled in my brows slightly using NYX Eyebrow Gel in Espresso. I brushed off the powder and I applied ELF peach blush from their blush palette in dark. Then I applied Becca's Shimmering skin porefector in Opal.

For the eyes, I started off by applying an eyeshadow primer- I used Wet n Wild's eyeshadow primer. I placed a mauve eyeshadow from the Loreal La Palette Nude 2. I placed the darkest shade in the palette in the outer corner of the crease to deepen it up a bit. After everything is blended I applied the mauve shade in the Lorac Pro Palette on my lid. In retrospect, I understand that I could have used the same mauve color from the Loreal palette as they're the exact same color- I was just being extra that day. Since I wanted to be fancy and wear falsies, I did a winged liner using NYX Matte liquid eyeliner. I applied Angel Lash #73 which are lovely lashes but I honestly prefer demi wispies.

For the lips, I applied MAC Prep + Prime lip primer because Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip is very drying. I applied Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Tulle. To finish it all off I sprayed some MAC Fix + on my face.

L.A Girl Matte Pigment Gloss | Fleur & Black Currant

la girl matte flat finish gloss fleur black currant review

I'll admit, I've lost faith in liquid lipsticks. It's just that most of them are so drying and uncomfortable on the lips that I no longer see the appeal of them. Why do we hate regular lipsticks all of a sudden?

I visited my local beauty supply store that I had been planning on going to for the past 2 years but kept putting off. They have a large selection of makeup and when I saw their L.A Girl section, I almost fan-girled. That's when you know you have an obsession with drug store makeup.

I settled for 2 shades from the L.A Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Gloss range just in case I didn't like them although all the bold shades were calling my name. I settled for Fleur (dark peachy nude shade) and Black Currant (dark vampy purple).

L.A Girl Matte Pigment Gloss are described to be a cross between a lipstick and a lip gloss. Ignore the name. It's a liquid lipstick with a matte finish. L.A Girl claims that it is a long wearing formula and with a velvet finish. They retail for only $5 so they're promising a lot for less than most liquid lipsticks on the market. They have a flat rectangular applicator that surprisingly applies lipstick well.

la girl matte flat finish gloss fleur black currant swatch

Fleur is a dark peachy nude color that is a beautiful everyday nude for WOC. This is my favorite nude at the moment.
la girl matte flat finish gloss fleur

Black Currant is a gorgeous dark vampy purple. This reminds me a lot of that dark purple lipstick that was photoshopped on Rihanna.

la girl matte flat finish gloss black currant review

Both colors are very pigmented- you only need two coats max. This liquid lipstick doesn't dry fast like Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks so it gives you time to work with it. If you apply more than 2 coats then it can feel uncomfortable on the lips but you don't need more than 2 coats. They aren't very drying but as always make sure you moisturize and exfoliate those crusty lips. I get about 5 hours of wear with them and keep in mind it isn't transfer-proof so you have to reapply after eating.

I'm in love with these lipsticks- I love these two colors and the formula. For $5, you can't beat it. I definitely plan on getting more of these shades. These lipsticks are a definite must try if you want a good quality liquid lipstick for cheap. Oh, and L.A Girl is cruelty-free.

What do you think?
What are your favorite liquid lipsticks at the moment?

Budget buy: trendy designer inspired sunglasses for only $5

trendy sunglasses spot quay dupe imitation

Sunglass Spot sells all styles of sunglasses for only $5 a pair. I randomly came across them while browsing on Instagram. Their whole feed is full of cute sunglasses and when I saw that their sunnies are only $5 a pair, I thought they were too good to be true. I recently broke my favorite pair of sunnies so I figured it was the perfect chance to buy some new sunglasses.

The first pair of sunglasses that caught my eye were their #4763 style. They look exactly like the Quay My Girl Cat Eye sunglasses that retail for around $50. Those are the sunglasses that Desi, Chrissspy and Patrick Starr are always rocking. I have been eyeing these sunglasses for a while now and when I saw these dupes I just had to snatch them up. They're available in several different shades and different color lenses. They're actually great quality and come with a pouch and a tissue to store and clean your sunglasses.

#3706 style are bold cat eye sunglasses. It can definitely add some glam to an outfit. I choose the gold style with gold lenses. Again it is of good quality but I don't like how it sits on my face- it kind sits a little crooked on my face.

Lastly, I chose the #3768 style for when I wanted to wear a chic but minimalist pair of sunglasses. Can you tell that I have a cat eye sunglasses obsession? I love the style and I love how it frames my face.

Most of Sunglass Spot sunglasses are dupes of high end sunglasses. They are well made considering that they only cost $5. Although I really don't need any more sunglasses.... there are a few more styles that I want. Specifically, Christian Dior dupes that I have been eyeing and the fashion gawds know that I will never spend $$$$ on sunglasses. I suggest checking out Sunglass Spot sunnies before you plan on buying any high end sunglasses because they have comparable dupes and maybe you'll stick with their sunnies and save some $$$.

October Beauty Review

sacha buttercup powder becca opal milani eyeshine nyx matte liner la girl pro concealer

It's time for my October Beauty Review. Last month I tried a ton of new products- I must admit that I went a little crazy makeup shopping although I promised myself that I'd go on a no-buy until Black Friday. I do feel a little better about that since most of the products I have purchased are ones that I like so at least my money was well spent.

Sacha Buttercup Setting Powder: This is a "Youtube made me buy it" purchase. I've seen so many girls on YT use it to set their undereye concealer and for baking. I have used translucent powder in the past but I feel like it gives me a white cast. This buttercup powder does the opposite- its yellow color helps brighten my undereyes slightly. I use it to bake my undereyes and I love how it sets my undereyes. This powder gives a lovely smooth finish to the skin. This powder is ideal for medium to dark skin tones.

Becca Shimmering Skin Porefector "Opal": This is a gift from my best frand in the entire world, Marcel. I was so stoked when I saw this because I've wanted this forever. It is a beautiful highlight which is surprising considering how light it looks in the pan but once you put it on your face... THE GAME IS CHANGED! It is so pigmented so you only need a little bit and you get highlight for days.

L.A Girl Matte Flat Finish Gloss: Finally, I've found an awesome liquid lipstick that isn't drying. Ignore the name- its not a gloss. This is my favorite liquid lippie at the moment; it's matte but not drying. It doesn't feel uncomfortable on my lips and I wish they had a larger shade selection for this range. Definitely a must try- stay tuned for an in-depth review soon.

NYX Matte Liquid Liner: I ran out of my favorite liquid liner, Wet n Wild Megaliner Liquid Eyeliner, and I wanted to see if there was a better drugstore liner out there. I am very impressed with this liner; its black, matte and waterproof. Random, but I also like the handle because for some reason it makes it easier to hold the brush and my liner looks a lot better.

L.A Girl Pro Concealer: A cult favorite- I have been using this concealer for a few years. It covers my undereye circles very well, doesn't crease, and is longwearing. I can't believe it's only $3 and its so much better than most drugstore and some highend concealers. A major plus is that there's a large shade range so you can find your perfect concealer.

Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine in "Florence": I LOVE THIS PALETTE. I have been getting so much use out of this palette this month- the colors are so beautiful and instantly add a chic vibe to any look. A total must have.

What products have you been loving lately?

Heavy Metal | Chrome Nails

chrome nail art press on nails

This is my first time wearing press on nails which was exciting as I have never worn fake nails before. I have always been into chrome nails but chrome nail polish is pricey and doesn't last very long. I was browsing ebae ebay for press on nails and I stumbled upon these chrome press on nail beauties. They retailed for $5.99 which is amazing considering press on nails with this kind of design are sold for triple on sites like etsy.

The kit came with 12 nails- one for each nail and two different sizes for your thumb nail. Almost all of them fit my nails except my index fingers. Those press on nails were too wide for my index finger so I had to file them down to the correct size. Application was simple and I used my Kiss Max Speed glue which dries extremely fast. I'm very impressed with this glue. After all the press on nails were applied and dried, I filed down the tops of the nails slightly. You can apply some top coat for maximum shine but I didn't. I recommend adding top coat as it gives shine and also protects the chrome from getting scuffed from wear.

I was very apprehensive about wearing press on  nails because they can damage your nails but if you apply them properly then they aren't as bad. I received TONS of compliments on these nails since they are so bold- I'm really glad I bought them and I totally recommend these nails.

Easy Nail Art | Grid Nails

Grid Nail Art

It's been a very long time since I last posted a nail art post. Lately, I have been in love with black and white designs and I received in the mail a set of nail art tape from ebay. I was dying to try it and decided to do an easy everyday nail art. It's super simple as all you need is a base coat, white nail polish, black nail art tape and a top coat.

I started off by applying a base coat to protect my nails and then I applied 2 coats of Essie's Blanc nail polish (My current favorite white nail polish). Make sure its completely dry and I applied 3 horizontal strips of black nail art tape on my nail and then 2 vertical stripes of nail art tape. After that I applied 2 generous layers of top coat as this is what ensures that the tape will stay on my nail and not peel off. You can definitely do this with a nail striper tool and create the lines with black polish as well if you do not have nail tape. I love doing this nail art as its very simple to do especially with the tape and I get tons of compliments on my nails.

All About Color Correcting!

Color correcting is a makeup technique that is so important if you have discoloration like acne scars, dark spots and dark under eyes. You may need to color correct if you notice that you apply foundation and concealer and you find that your acne scars and discoloration show through it. Color correcting helps hide discoloration and you use less concealer and foundation when you color correct under it.

How do I color correct?
You have probably seen tons of color correcting palettes in stores with of different shades like lavender, yellow, green and orange. You probably wondered "what the hell do I do with this?"

These different shades actually counteract the color of the discoloration that you want to hide. It's based off the makeup color wheel as the colors that are opposite each other neutralize each other.

Following color theory, red under-eye circles, red acne scars and pimples will require a green concealer to neutralize the red. Blueish purple under eye circles will require a orange concealer. Dark spots and dark discoloration will also require an orange concealer. You apply the appropriate concealer on the area, blend it out and then apply your concealer and foundation.
I love to color correct to neutralize my red under-eye circles and acne scars and as a result I use less foundation and concealer to cover them up. I use my NYX concealer in green and I apply it with my Avon mark flat concealer brush.
nyx concealer green color correcting
My drugstore picks are NYX concealers and L.A girl HD concealers. I love the formula and they have a good color selection. L.A girl has a huge color selection though and they also have 3 color correcting shades. At $3 a pop, you cannot go wrong with them. NYX has liquid HD concealers and concealers in a jar. I have tried them both and love them. NYX also has the correcting shades but L.A girl beats them when it comes to a large shade selection for all skintones. NYX concealers retail around $6 and those are the ones that I currently use (I have gone through 5 of these).

Color correcting is an indispensable technique for those who have discoloration such as myself and you'll find that it will make a huge difference in your makeup.

Do you color correct?

Review & Swatches | Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine "Florence"

Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine Florence swatches review

I am in love with this Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine palette. As soon as I saw this palette in CVS, I knew I had to have it. There are 3 other palettes in this collection. The palette that I purchased is Florence which consists of bronzes, browns and golds. I bought this at CVS for $9.99.
The Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshines are basically glittery eyeshadows that have a cream consistency. When I first bought it I thought that they were foiled eyeshadows but clearly I was wrong. There is a flat tip plastic applicator included with the palette which I actually use. It helps me pack the eyeshine on my lid (probably the first time that a drugstore e/s applicator proved to be very useful). These shadows aren't very opaque as they're glittery- these eyeshadows give a lovely shine to the lids. These eyeshines are supposed to be worn on the lids- I can't see someone using this in their crease. You can apply them with the applicator or your finger and then use your finger to blend them. These Eyeshines are also long wearing- it lasted more than 10 hours on my lids and it still looked amazing at the end of the day! You may experience shorter wear times if you have oily eyelids and depending if you use a primer.

Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine Florence swatches review
The top left eyeshine is a copper gold color, top right eyeshine is brown, bottom left is a yellow gold color, and the bottom right is a lovely rose. My favorites are the rose and copper colors- they look so gorgeous on the lids. The brown eyeshine looks great for a shiny brown smokey eye. The yellow gold color is nice but I mostly use it as an inner corner highlight. I have posted a look using this palette (HERE)

I love this palette and it is so different from other palettes that I own. I definitely plan on getting more of these palettes and if you love neutrals and shimmery shadows then you will definitely like this.

Review | China Glaze Nail Lacquer S'More Fun

China Glaze Nail Lacquer Smore fun

S'more Fun was released in the The Great Outdoors 2015 collection. As soon as I saw a swatch of this polish on twitter I knew I had to have it. I love bright fun nail colors and this one is right up my alley.

This is what China Glaze says:
"China Glaze, The Great Outdoors Collection: Adventure, camping, caves, crystals, exploration, forest , nature and wilderness. Reconnect with nature. Unplug and enjoy your surroundings. Stop and smell the roses. This collection inspires you to ground yourself again, for even just a moment, with the wondrous world around us, that we lose sight of in the hustle and bustle of everyday routines. Find the treasure in nature that shimmer, sparkle and wow you!

Contains China clay as a nail hardener. Free of DBP, toluene and added formaldehyde."

S'More Fun is a lime green color with a creme finish. For full opacity, three coats are needed. I'm sure it will look much brighter with a white polish applied underneath as a base. The formula isn't the greatest considering how much it retails for- I get about 3-4 days before I notice significant wear. I purchased this at Ulta for $7.50 but you can buy this online for much cheaper from sites like Amazon for as low as $3. Overall, I love this color and I wear quite frequently but I wish the formula was improved.

P.S Currently, Ulta has a BOGO Free sale on this collection. Go Go Go!

Have you tried any nail polishes from this collection?
What are your thoughts?

EOTD: Bronze Glow feat. Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine

Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine Nyx eyeshadow tarte mascara eyeliner

It's been a long time since I last posted a look. Today I was inspired by the Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine in Florence. The palette is so beautiful and I wanted to create a simple look with the gold shade in the palette. These eyeshines are kind of tricky because you assume that they are like foiled eyeshadows and are opaque but you just have to apply it on your lids and it gives a lovely glow.

Milani Fierce Foil Eyeshine Nyx eyeshadow tarte mascara eyeliner
sleek e.l.f nars milani NYX fierce foil eyeshine

I started off by applying my Wet n Wild eyeshadow primer on my lids. I applied NYX matte eyeshadow in Dance The Tides in my crease and blended it out. By the way, this shadow is said to be a dupe for Mac e/s in Saddle. After the e/s is blended I applied the top left gold shade in the Milani Palette. For an inner corner highlight, I applied the yellow gold bottom left shade in the palette. You can just stop here and apply mascara but I wanted to try a new liquid liner that I bought yesterday at Ulta. I used NYX Matte liquid liner and winged it out. This eyeliner is a pleasant surprise- I like the brush applicator and the formula. Then, I applied my favorite mascara at the moment which is Tarte Lights,Camera, Lashes.
For the face, I applied a light layer of NARS Sheer Glow. Nyx HD concealer for my under eyes. Then I applied the top left blush in the e.l.f blush palette in dark. I applied my favorite highlighter from the Sleek face form palette on my cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose. For the brows, I filled them in using a light amount of NYX eyebrow gel. To finish the look, I set my makeup using NYX Dewy Setting spray.
I love this look. It's super simple yet the Milani eyeshine makes it look like I put a lot of effort. I definitely plan on getting more of these palettes. I'm also impressed with the NYX liner- its very black, matte and lasted ALL day. Since it is waterproof you have to remove it with an oil based remover. I hope you enjoyed this look and will have some fall appropriate looks coming up soon.

Body Merry Skincare

body merry skincare eye gel cellulite cream stretch mark scars

I had the pleasure of reviewing a few products from Body Merry from Brandbacker. I received their Day & Night Eye Gel, Cellulite gel cream, and Stretch Mark & Scars cream. I was intrigued as I don't have a set body skincare routine and I do struggle with stretch marks. Body Merry sells natural and organic skincare products which are high quality but affordable. Also, their products are made in the USA and are not tested on animals.

Day & Night Eye Gel for Dark Circles, Puffiness, and Bags contains a lot of product. It comes in opaque plastic packaging with a pump dispenser. The gel is a clear gel and when applied I feel like it moisturizes my undereye area and it kind of tightens it too. It's full of effective ingredients and I enjoy using this eye gel moreover the other ones I own. It retails for $15.99 which is totally reasonable considering the amount of product you get and the ingredients. Most the of time, organic and natural skincare products retail for the double or triple this price.

"Turbo charge your daily morning and night skincare routine by adding our supercharged eye gel to it. Get Body Merry's Day-to-Night Eye Gel to give your eyes lasting energy all day and restorative benefits throughout the night. With a unique blend of Vitamin C, MSM, Peptides, Plant Stem Cells and plenty more, your eyes will be fully loaded to fight against dark circles, puffiness, bags and wrinkles."

Cellulite Defense Gel-Cream    I don't have cellulite so I didn't use this as much so I can't give a thorough review. Its a orange gel like consistency that oddly enough almost faintly smells like orange soda or a fruity soda. You are to use this twice a day and with exercise you will notice that the skin looks tighter, smoother and younger.

"Face beach season head on with Body Merry’s Cellulite Defense Gel-Cream and keep your body tight and smooth all year long. With elements that enhance circulation, reduce fat and make you feel cool as a cucumber (literally), you will be well on your way to getting skin that feels and looks tighter, smoother and younger. Our Cellulite Gel-Cream can be added to any skincare routine. For best results use alongside an active lifestyle and healthy diet."

Stretch Marks & Scars Defense Cream  This claims to help visibly reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars. I was very intrigued by this cream because I do have stretch marks on my upper thighs and past surgical scars that I'd like to diminish. It is a thick cream consistency that is super moisturizing and it smells wonderful- it smells just like chocolate. I use this a moisturizer for my body not just for the areas that have marks and scars. I haven't noticed a significant difference yet but my skin looks so nice when I use it. So far I love this cream.

"We put our skin and body through a lot which can often mean unwanted marks and scars. Body Merry’s Stretch Marks & Scars Defense Cream uses natural and effective ingredients that penetrate deep into your skin and deliver the highest levels of moisture. This hydrating and nourishing cream helps to prevent and visibly reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars. Our stretch marks cream can be added to any skincare routine and doubles as an all-over body butter for continuous hydration."

These products so far have impressed me with the eye gel and most importantly the cream being my favorite. I may post an update within a month in a beauty review about the eye gel and scar cream. If I were to repurchase any of these products, it would definitely be the eye gel and stretch mark and scar cream.

Do you have a body skincare routine?

How to save $$$ & look good!

how to save money while online shopping

I love makeup and fashion but I hate spending money. I'm cheap and a college student so therefore coupons and sales events are my best friend. Over time, I have found a few ways to save money on makeup and fashion and I wanted to share them with you in the hopes that you will find it helpful and save $$$ too.

My Skincare Saviors: LUSH (Suitable for Oily Blemish-Prone Skin)

It isn't everyday you stumble upon skincare products you can't live without. For the past couple of months my acne came back and no matter what I did, it wouldn't go away. I was about to give up until my best friend Marcel ordered some LUSH goodies and told me how amazing they were. I was desperate and I ordered right away. Mind you, I have heard of LUSH and I know they're known for their skincare but I never tried them until now. I picked up Herbalism cleanser, Tea Tree toner water, Grease Lightning and Mask of Magnaminty. After a few weeks of using them I have decided that I love them and they are definitely HG status.

Mask of Magnaminty- This is an intense but gentle mask. It deep cleans and pulls debris from my pores but when I wash it off it doesn't leave my skin feeling irritated or tight. It has beans to exfoliate the skin and that's great for people with flaky or dry skin. I love the peppermint scent and it has replaced my once favorite mint julep mask. I feel this mask definitely helps my skin looks its best and I use this once a week.

Tea Tree Water: This toner contains tea tree but don't worry it isn't like other tea tree products that can dry your skin out. If you didn't like The Body Shop's Tree Tree Toner, give this one a try. It's completely different. It feels so refreshing and the scent is very pleasant. It is great for those with oily skin.

Grease Lightning: This also contains tea tree and it is intended to be a spot treatment. It is a clear gel with no scent. You place this on top of a pimple and it will dry it out overnight. This little guy is super effective- I always notice a difference and it helped reduce the size of a few cystic acne bumps that I had  before using Lush. A little goes a long way and be sure just to place it on top of pimples. My best friend used to apply it on her face and noted that in some places where her skin was clear she'd get small pimples. This is easily one of the most effective spot cleansers that I've tried.

Herbalism: This is meant for oily blemish prone skin (me!). It has a lot of good herbs such as kaolin clay, rosemary, chamomile and more. It is kind of messy as you have to scoop some product out, mix with water into a paste and cleanse your face. As the name suggests, it smells very herbal which may be an unpleasant smell for some. I wasn't a fan of it at first but the scent has grown on me. Fortunately, the scent does not linger after you wash it off. Herbalism cleanses my skin very well and it doesn't leave my skin tight and dry like most cleansers for oily skin do.

I am obsessed with these products and I wish I had tried them earlier! My skin is so clear and when I do get a pimple they don't stand a chance because I use Grease Lightning right away. I stopped using retinol and vitamin c skincare system that I was once using and I'm going to stick with Lush.

China Glaze Nail Lacquer "Sun of a Peach"

china glaze sun of a peach nail polish swatch

Lately, I have been obsessed with bright neon colors as I love the way they make my tan pop. I went to Ulta last week because I wanted a couple of nail polishes from the new fall 2015 China Glaze collection but they didn't have them yet. I took a look at their selection of China Glaze nail polishes and "Sun of a Peach" stood out to me. It was the brightest nail polish and it was too pretty to pass up.

"Sun of a Peach" is a gorgeous bright peach color with a creme finish. It takes 2 coats for full opacity and dries within a reasonable amount of time. This nail polish wears really well- after 4 days it started to chip slightly at the edges. I love this nail polish and I already went and picked up more shades to try!

Review | L'Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator Rose

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator Rose

Dewy highlighted skin is trendy now and in the makeup world there has been a several new highlighters released with this illuminator being one of them. This is a liquid illuminator that can be used as a primer or highlighter. This comes in range of 3 shades: Ice, Rose and Golden. Ice works well for cool tones, Rose works for Neutral skin tones and Golden looks great on darker skin tones.

I purchased this at Ulta and it retails for $12.99 and contains 0.67 fl oz of product. I got Rose as I am obsessed with rose gold although I think I would be better off with Golden. Rose is a shimmery peachy-rose shade. It looks very subtle on my skin but it looks gorgeous when I apply it on my body. I have used it under my foundation but I don't really notice a difference like when I use strobe cream under my foundation. It is very subtle under foundation.
L'Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator Rose

Overall, I like this illuminator- its subtle but I prefer using it on my body. This range of illuminators may be nice for those who want to experiment with liquid illuminators but make sure you get it on sale.

July Beauty Review

maybelline fit me nyx eyebrow gel concealer tarte mascara colourpop matte lip

End of the month = new monthly beauty review. I'm changing the style of my monthly beauty favorites as I'd like to not only talk about products that I have been using this month that I like but also briefly review some products that I may not like for whatever reason. I have been trying a lot of new products this month and there are a few products that I have been loving and some that I'm not  too crazy about.

NYX Eyebrow Gel: I don't have a real eyebrow routine because I do not have to fill in my brows too much- I just need to fill them in slightly. I have been using e.l.f eyebrow kit which I love but I'm running out of it and I heard that this gel is a dupe of the Anastasia eyebrow pomade. I LOVE this gel as you only need the tiniest bit to fill both brows in and its basically waterproof. This lasts all day on my brows. This is definitely going to last me a long time.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara: This is a deluxe sample that came in a Tarte box that I bought from Ulta. I heard great things about this mascara and it didn't disappoint me. It gives my lashes amazing length and volume and I only need one coat for each lash. The size of the brush is great for my lower lashes as well.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless: When I tried this foundation during the winter I wasn't a huge fan of it because my skin was dry then and this foundation is ideal for normal to oily skin ladies. I have been loving this foundation as it doesn't make my face look like an oil slick, good coverage and its long wearing. This foundation is so much better than the original Fit Me foundation.

NYX HD Concealer: This is my favorite drugstore concealer- I have about 3 shades of this concealer and I will always repurchase. It covers my dark undereye circles very well and it lasts throughout the day. It's also very affordable- retail approximately $5. However, I do need to set it with powder as it will crease if I don't.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks: I'm on of those people who spent a long time refreshing Colourpop's website so I could get my hands on a couple of these lipsticks. I basically fell into the hype on youtube and I regret buying them. This range has a large selection of colors which I like but the formula is very drying (You can check out my first impression here). I find that using Mac's Prep + Prime lip helps slightly.

The dark side of Blogging & Youtube

I love beauty and makeup. Since I was a teen I would spend my time watching makeup videos on youtube. At the time I had no idea about anything makeup and beauty related. I found the whole process confusing but fascinating at the same time. At the time I had absolutely no idea what foundation was! I learned a lot from Youtube and my favorite youtubers inspired me to start blogging. It was a very different time for youtubers and bloggers as they did it as a hobby and to meet other beauty obsessed people. Fast forward to now and many things have changed. Youtube and blogging for some has become an easy way for them to make money and reach internet fame.

Sponsored Content
It is increasingly common for youtubers and bloggers to get sponsored by companies regardless of subscriber count. Many companies are starting to understand how influential youtubers and bloggers are. For instance, when Jaclyn Hill mentioned Morphe in one of her videos Morphe's website crashed because of the massive amount of people trying to access their site. It is very common for high end makeup brands to send youtubers and bloggers makeup to try; Before it was usually indie makeup brands who would send makeup as they needed more exposure. I have even noticed some youtubers getting upset because a makeup brand didn't send them their latest makeup primer to try although they sent it to many others (not gonna say any names). A lot of popular youtubers and bloggers regularly have sponsored content on their blogs as they can receive free product and get paid for featuring a product on their channel or blog. This is a positive thing for them as this allows to turn their hobby into a job. It isn't known exactly how much they make but I have read an article that stated some popular instagrammers charge anywhere around $5,000- $15,000 for one picture about a sponsored product. Clearly, most of us are in the wrong profession *grabs camera and snaps selfies for Instagram*

Sponsors sounds like fun and games until bloggers and youtubers "forget" the rules and don't disclose the fact that new makeup primer that they LOVE although they only have been using it for a day was not purchased by them and that coupon code that they're shoving in your face every 5 seconds will actually make them money. I get it, blogging and making videos takes a lot of work. I know. I understand that while the brand is making money from you bringing them customers you want to get paid as well. However, there's nothing wrong with being honest and letting your subscribers know that the product you're featuring is sponsored. Why? Well, your subscribers are hard working people who want an honest review about a product and unlike you who received the product for free (no problem with that) they want to buy a product that will perform. There are countless times where a blogger or youtuber (I notice this on problem more on youtube) RAVED about a product and then people who purchased the product didn't like it- myself included. I once bought some lippies based on a ton of youtubers recommendations and once I tried it-it was nothing like they claimed. Bottom line, disclosing is crucial because no one likes an dishonest blogger.

Cattiness among bloggers and gurus
I haven't experienced this personally but I have seen a lot of drama in the youtube and blogging worlds. Some bloggers have insinuated that other bloggers have purchased followers and some youtubers have drama with others for many different reasons. It seems like sometimes some bloggers and youtubers compete with each other for popularity, more views and subscribers etc. Like I said, I haven't experienced this and I have made friends with a few bloggers- One blogger was even nice and patient enough to help me with my blog design! Competition definitely exists among some bloggers and youtubers because they may feel like they have to compete with each other for subscribers and attention from PRs.

PRs & Bloggers/Youtubers
PRs are people who work for a particular brand and they contact bloggers and youtubers and ultimately work together so that the person receives the product and may or may not feature it in their blog, youtube or social media sites. I haven't worked with many brands as I am a new blogger but I have heard of countless bloggers who complain that brands pressure them to only provide good reviews for their products and even not state that they received the products from them for free. A good example is when the owner of Limecrime got upset when a blogger gave an honest review of her products (which wasn't even negative) and Doe Deere bullied the blogger and threatened legal action if the blogger did not provide a glowing review about Limecrime (You can read more about this here). This pressure from brands creates an ethical dilemma for bloggers because they want to maintain a positive relationship with PRs so that they can continue working together in the future but they do not want to compromise their honesty and their morals. I have experienced this once when I saw that a brand was seeking bloggers to test their products and one of their requirements was that the blogger had to post a positive review. Needless to say, I steered clear from them. There are also other issues between brands and bloggers/youtubers.

We all know that there are many makeup brands that neglect to create foundation/concealer shades that match women of color which is not cool at all. I will never understand why brands feel as though they can neglect certain people of their target demographic as this causes them to lose business. Fortunately, there are makeup brands like NARS who have a large range of shades to suit many different skintones. Another issue is that there are many PRs who choose to not work with bloggers and youtubers of color. When a new product is going to be released the brand's PR sends makeup to many bloggers and youtubers but to very few bloggers and youtubers of color. Earth to makeup brands- we need these women to get press samples as well because we need to see how your product looks like on women of color.

I love blogging with all my heart but with all things in life there are good things and bad things and blogging is no exception. There is a small dark side of blogging and youtube and hopefully there will be a change and makeup brands, bloggers and youtubers will play by the rules.

My Favorite Youtubers

I love youtube. Youtube has basically replaced TV for me.  I have a few favorite youtubers that I love to watch because they are so knowledgeable and talented. I'm sure most of you know them already but I wanted to share them to spread the love and for those who are not familiar with them can follow them if they are interested.

Jackie Aina

She's beautiful, talented, intelligent and funny! I love her videos and I always learn something new. Jackie is so hilarious and her snaps always have me laughing! Jackie does a variety of different makeup looks and she is great at explaining makeup- I love that she does a lot of colorful looks as I tend to stick with neutrals and I've been leaning towards more colorful looks since watching her videos. She gears her videos towards women of color which is great because she really helps WOC with different makeup techniques. Don't get me wrong, all skin tones can watch her videos and learn a lot from her.

Claire Marshall

Claire has a lot of makeup experience as she was a makeup artist but now youtube is her fulltime job. Claire is gorgeous and I love her makeup and style. She's so cool and effortless and I enjoy watching her videos. Claire is the queen of editing- her videos always seems as though you're watching a mini movie; she puts so much effort into her videos. She can make a simple video into an amazing & interesting one just with her superb editing. I also love her vlogs- she lives in LA so you get to see LA through her vlogs. Plus, she has an adorable cat named Bruce. Just a warning: if you watch her latest video that I attached just know that you will cry. I'm not going to spoil it but watch it.

Peakmill is so beautiful and I love her makeup. She slays makeup and her style is amazing! She does a lot of GRWM, style and hair videos and I always learn something new from her. I always enjoy seeing her videos- she is just so cool to me. I get a lot of fashion inspiration from her videos.

Batalash Beauty

This channel consists of three ladies who collaborate and make videos. They are very talented and have many makeup looks that are creative. My favorite from the group is Samantha- she is so beautiful and I love her personality. She is just so confident and honest with her viewers and I appreciate that.

I have many more youtubers that I like but these are my top favorites and I wanted to share them with you. They are all beautiful and talented youtubers and I hope you check out their videos. If you like them, subscribe.

Ulta Haul | Nyx & L'oreal!

loreal la palette nude 2 rose true match lumi nyx soft matte lip cream prague monte carlo dewy setting spray hd concealer eyebrow gel
Ulta had an 40% off sale a couple weeks ago and I couldn't resist so I did a little damage at Ulta. I had a few things that I wanted from NYX- which was mostly repurchases because I had to stock up on some of my faves so this 40% sale was perfect for me. I picked a couple of L'oreal goodies that I had been eyeing for a while.

L'Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in Rose: This is one of L'Oreal's new products. I don't have a rose gold highlighter so I definitely wanted this. There are 3 shades available: ice which is for fair skin women, rose is supposed to be suitable for those who are neutral and gold for darker skin tones. I wish I picked up gold as well.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams in Prague & Monte Carlo: I own almost half of this range of lippies. I love the color selection, formula and scent. I had been wanting Prague for the longest now and finally picked it up. Prague is a lovely purple shade and Monte Carlo appears to be a dark red but it is not as dark as it looks in the tube. It's kind of like a dark red with a bit of pink tones. I wish it were as dark and vampy as it looks in the packaging.

NYX Dewy Setting Spray: IS BAE just like the Soft Matte Lip Creams. It sets my makeup and gives a pretty dewy finish to my skin without my skin looking like an oil slick. I had to repurchase this. Oily skin ladies who want to keep their oils at bay may not like this but dry & normal skin types will love this.

NYX HD Concealer in Glow: I own like 3 different colors in this range. It is a medium coverage concealer and it works well to conceal my undereye circles and it has replaced my MAC prolongwear concealer as it is much cheaper and does the same thing. Just make sure to moisturize your undereye area and set with powder after using this concealer.

NYX Eyebrow Gel in Espresso: I have a lot of hype regarding this gel because it's supposed to be a dupe for the Anastasia brow pomade/gel. I don't know if it is a dupe since I have never tried the brow pomade before. I kind of messed up brows last week while trimming so I need this gel to fill in my brows and make them look normal.

NYX eyeshadow in Dance the Tides: I picked this up after hearing that this eyeshadow is a dupe for MAC "Saddle" eyeshadow. You can never have too many transition/crease eyeshadows!

loreal la palette nude 2

L'Oreal La Palette Nude 2: This was kind of an impulse buy because I don't need another palette in my collection but my excuse is that I don't have many mauve/rose e/s. This retails for approx. $20 and I got it on sale for about $12. I saw swatches online and this palette looked promising so I can't wait to start playing with it. On the back of the palette, there is a guide that shows 4 different looks you can do. This is very helpful for beginners and people who need an idea of how to pair these eyeshadows together.

I can't wait to start playing with this makeup and I'll be sure to include my thoughts on these items in my next beauty review.

Dupe?: Beauty Blender vs Real Techniques Complexion Sponge

real techniques complexion sponge beauty blender comparison dupe

After all of the hype for the Beauty Blender I decided to give it a try a few weeks ago. I hauled it last month and I purchased the red limited edition beauty blender. The $20 price tag shocked me but I really wanted to try it. I have tried so many beauty blender dupes in the past that I liked and others that didn't impress me so I wanted to know what is it about the Original Beauty Blender that blows these "dupes" out of the water.

real techniques complexion sponge

The highly contested dupe for the Beauty Blender is the Real Techniques Complexion Sponge. It retails for a fraction of the price ($5.99) of the Beauty Blender. I've reviewed it in depth before and if you're interested in learning more about it click here.

red beauty blender

The Beauty Blender retails for $20 and it is recommended to replace it frequently- about every 3 months. They come in a few different colors: black, pink, white and red. Recently, a larger beauty blender was released which is meant for the body but I have heard people like using it to blend their foundation because it covers more area than the smaller beauty blender. After using the beauty blender I immediately noticed the differences between these two sponges.

The Beauty Blender is bit smaller than the RT sponge and feels a little lighter. I also noticed that during my first use after I wet it, the sponge was leaking red dye so I had to wash it to get the color out. I don't know if this is the case with the pink beauty blender. The RT sponge feels different than the BB; as if they are made out of different sponge material. The BB has more bounce than the RT so it helps with stippling the product in. I love using the BB to blend in concealer, foundation and even highlighter. Seriously, try applying your highlighter with the BB- thank me later.

I very much prefer using my BB over the RT. I won't repurchase the RT sponge and as much as I love the BB I am hesitant over having to replace my beauty blender often. This is the reason why I like using brushes because they can last you years and still look new if you take proper care of them. Although, I do enjoy the natural finish that a sponge gives. In other words, I'd choose the Beauty Blender over the RT sponge any day.

Colourpop Haul & First Impression | Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks & Eyeshadow

colourpop ultra matte lip tulle limbo eyeshadow lala

Colourpop is a very affordable brand; Their eyeshadows retail for about $5 each and their lipsticks retail around the same price. I placed an order the day the ultra matte liquid lipsticks launched. Their website was down for a few hours and I was able to place an order when they fixed the site. I saw a few videos about these lipsticks during the meantime and I was sold. The range has so many different colors from bold to very natural shades. All of the shades of the Ultra Matte Lip sold out within several hours. These Liquid lipsticks retail for $6 each so I couldn't say no. The Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick line has a large selection of shades- about 25 shades. I purchased two shades from their line: Limbo and Tulle. I also picked an eyeshadow from their supershock line called Lala.

Colourpop SuperShock Eyeshadow lala

Colourpop SuperShock Eyeshadow lala

Lala is a shimmery rose gold and it is crazy pigmented. The pigmentation really impressed me. These eyeshadows are a creme to powder finish and it does not budge. All of the eyeshadows in this collection have a pretty impression on top which goes away with use. I'm very happy with this eyeshadow and I want to buy a few more shades.

Colourpop ultra matte lip tulle limbo

Colourpop ultra matte lip tulle limbo swatch

Colourpop ultra matte lip limbo swatch

Limbo is the shade that stood out to me the most. It looks like an exact dupe for Limecrime Salem. It is a deep dark brown. I LOVE this color but I hate the formula. I heard a honest review of these colors from MannyMua on his snapchat which he said that these were very drying. He received a lot of criticism from saying this but what he said was completely true. These lipsticks have a doe foot applicator and it dries very quickly on your lips as you're applying it. Be very careful applying a second coat because it will flake off if you do. Once it dried, my lips felt tight and uncomfortable. It emphasized every line on my lips. I would say that this is transfer-proof because it refuses to come off unless you remove it with an oil based remover. Definitely make sure you exfoliate your lips and moisturize. I will be applying a lip primer under these lipsticks and hopefully it should help.

Colourpop ultra matte lip tulle swatch

Tulle is a gorgeous color- it is a dark mauve color. It is a bit darker than I expected but it's due the swatches that I saw online. This color is so gorgeous but the formula sucks as well. Both of these lipsticks are pigmented and it only requires one coat but just make sure to work fast since it dries quickly.

I'm very pleased with Lala- I love rose gold shades and I want to pick up more colors. However, Limbo and Tulle are a different story. There were a few other shades that I wanted but after trying these two I don't think I'll be buying any more shades. The formula is what makes me hate them. I honestly don't think they are worth it.

Have you tried Colourpop?
