What's new at the drugstore?

Wet n Wild Max Lash Out Loud Volume Mascara Wet n Wild Fergie Blush in Brush with Brilliance Wet n Wild Fergie Velvet Matte Lip Color in Plumgenue
Is it just me who thinks that Walgreens is stepping up their makeup displays? I saw a ton of new makeup displayed and they added a new e.l.f display. I saw a ton of new wet n wild makeup and since I'm a wnw fan I had to pick some up- I also saw a few new megalast lipstick shades.

I picked up:
  • Wet n Wild Max Lash Out Loud Volume Mascara
  • Wet n Wild Fergie Blush in Brush with Brilliance
  • Wet n Wild Fergie Velvet Matte Lip Color in Plumgenue
Max Volume mascara promises to give 10x volume- I like the packaging and the brush size. I hope its better than their previous mascaras. "Brush with Brilliance" is a pink blush with loads of gold shimmer. This blush promises to last 10 hours. I picked up Plumgenue because I prefer dark lippies and the packaging  suggests that the color is a dark plum but I've seen swatches and the lippie is completely different. The packaging is very misleading and all of the lippies in this collection have the same problem. Plumgenue is actually is a cool toned pink. These three products are under $5 and available at Walgreens, CVS and other drugstores as well as online.

LOTD: Jordana Cabernet Lipliner & MAC Rihanna VG II

I'm not sure why I haven't posted this earlier but this has been my favorite lippie combo for the past few months since I've purchased Rihanna VG II. I truly love this lipstick, its nothing like any lipstick in my collection and it's such a versatile lipstick. MAC Rihanna VG II is a greyish mauve shade with a frost finish (Swatch & Review here). I normally hate frost finishes but this is an exception. The cool thing about this lipstick is that it looks great on all skintones especially on darker skintones but it also looks different on various skintones. On darker skintones it looks slightly brown and on lighter skintones it looks a lot greyer. The reason why I say its versatile is because you can pair it with lots of different lipliners and get a cool look.

I have paired it with Jordana's retractable lipliner in Cabernet which is a lovely dark berry shade. I also LOVE this lipliner- the color, pigmentation, and formulation is amazing. It's super creamy and you can wear it by itself as a lipcolor- don't worry, it wont dry out your lips. I lined my lips with this lipliner and then applied the MAC lippie on top and it darkened the color and gave it a frost finish.

On to the selfie:

I highly recommend purchasing some Jordana lipliners and this MAC lipstick. You won't be disappointed!

O.P.I Kermit Me to Speak

opi kermit me to speak
Seriously, whenever I go to purchase makeup and I plan on picking up one thing I usually end up leaving the store with several things. That's the case with this nail polish. I planned on just buying a foundation but as soon as I saw this I knew I had to have it. I purchased this at Harmon, this nail polish and a few others were on sale so I paid about $4 for this polish.

Kermit Me To Speak is from the Muppets Most Wanted collection that was released last year. It is a gorgeous grey/mauvey-purple duo chrome shade and it is opaque after 2 coats. Like all duo chromes depending on how the light hits it changes color so it shifts from grey to purple. Overall, I really like this shade- its a lovely color, doesn't chip easily (lasted me 4 days without chipping) and its different from other polishes in my collection due to its finish.

I was super lucky to find these eyeshadows at Dollar Tree. My Dollar Tree doesn't carry a lot of makeup brands- its mostly L.A girl. So when I saw these eyeshadows I had to snatch them up especially since they are only $1 each and they retail at other stores for about $8.

I picked up 4 shades: I Heart You, Drench In Gold, Fusion and Rich Java.

These eyeshadows can be used dry or wet and I prefer them wet. I adore how pigmented and vibrant they look then used wet. I like using water or when I'm feeling fancy, fix +. They all contain shimmer and Rich Java has shimmer but not as much as the others. These eyeshadows are baked and they have some veining.

My favorites are Fusion and Rich Java as I find them wearable for everyday. I think Rich Java would make for a lovely dark brown smokey eye. I Heart You and Drench In Gold are pretty shades but I'm more of a neutral eyeshadow girl so I like the other shades more.

"No-Poo" Update

Source
Last year in June, I announced that I was going to try the "No-Poo" challenge (here). Mind you, there are various forms of this challenge. For those who aren't familiar with this, its basically not using shampoo on your hair- some decide to not use shampoo and just use conditioner, others make their own shampoo and others like me choose to use a shampoo bar. Shampoo Bars are different from shampoos like Pantene because they are made from natural ingredients and they don't contain any sulfates which can damage your hair.

I used J.R Liggetts Shampoo bar and then I would rinse my hair with an ACV rinse. I started this challenge after learning about the damaging effects that most shampoos have on hair. I was hopeful that I would see a change in my hair during the challenge.

After about 3 months I gave up for a couple of reasons. I didn't like the ACV rinse; its very tedious and I hate the smell. I used to add a few drops of lavender essential oil to my rinse but that wouldn't take away the ACV smell completely. I could still smell the ACV in my hair and honestly nobody finds the smell of vinegar attractive. Another reason why I stopped is that I didn't notice a significant difference in my hair's health. Sure, my hair didn't get greasy as fast as it used to- I could go about 5 days without washing but I would still get split ends a lot. Also, my hair had a lot of build up so I had to use a clarifying shampoo- which I feel does more for my hair than the shampoo bar ever did.

I think I was still going through the transitional period of "No Poo" where some people experience that their hair gets unmanageable but then it gets better, similar to a skin purge when using new skincare products or methods. I felt that I did not have the time to be dealing with all of that and I feel as though my current hair care routine does more than this method. I use Kenra Clarifying Shampoo which I love and I definitely don't see myself using a shampoo bar again. "No Poo" is just not for me.

Have you gone "No Poo" and if so what are your thoughts?

Football Nails!

Inspired Katy Perry Football nail art
Its Superbowl Sunday!
Today is practically a holiday full of delicious food and football. I don't like football and I know nothing about it so I usually look forward to the food and halftime concert. Katy Perry is performing this year and she posted on Instagram her football pedicure. I thought it was cute and perfect for the occasion and I decided to give it a try.

Its super simple:
I painted my nails dark brown with Naturistics Jammin' Java Creme. After that I used a white nail polish striper to create 1 vertical line and then 3 horizontal intersecting lines on each nail. Apply your favorite top coat and then you're done!

Stylewurks Ultimate Blending Makeup Sponge

Makeup sponges have been having a moment since 2013. Back then we used to use little wedge and rectangle sponges that weren't all that pretty and then the Beauty Blender came out and BAM!
It revolutionized the beauty world. Since then a ton of companies came out with Beauty Blender dupes most of them falling short of the real thing. I wouldn't know as I haven't purchased a Beauty Blender because I'm still debating whether its worth it but I have tried a few dupes.
On to the review...

I purchased this sponge at Harmon for about $5. It is Latex Free & Hypoallergenic and you're supposed to wet it, squeeze the excess water out and bounce it on your skin to stipple your makeup on. In general, I do like makeup sponges because they give a beautiful finish and its not cakey at all but I feel like I end up using more product with a sponge. This sponge does not feel as soft as it should and I wish the top of the sponge were more pointed that way it would be a lot better at blending concealer.

I wont be repurchasing  this faux beauty blender because it I feel like there's better faux beauty blenders out there.

Do you think the real Beauty Blender is worth it?
